Raindrops Keep Falling On Our Heads

One of the premier events for Christian young people in this country is the Urbana conference.  This event is sponsored by Intervarsity Christian ministries and is held every three years.  It is one of the largest Christian youth events in the world.  The most recent conference was December 27-31, 2015 and was held in St. Louis, MO.  Advancing Native Missions had a display there, with a number of staff representing ANM.

Back in our offices in Virginia, we received regular reports about what was happening at the conference.  One of these reports noted that social media from the conference was very interesting.  There were a number of posts to Facebook and Twitter commenting on the fact that the LGBT community was not represented at the conference.  Fascinating.  Would you really expect the Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transgender community to be a part of this conference?  For some, apparently yes.

One of the most hotly contested controversies in educational, political and scientific circles has been Intelligent Design, or I.D. It has popped up in presidential press conferences. It has become an issue in local elections. And it is the subject of discussion on television, radio, scientific journals, and popular magazines. Indeed, just a few years back I watched a debate on C-Span dealing with I.D. and whether it should be taught in public schools. It has appeared everywhere. So, let’s join the fray, and discuss the issue of I.D.

Harry Potter And Lord of the Rings

Question: “Both Lord of the Rings and the Harry Potter series are examples of fantasy literature. And both have stories of magic and sorcery. Is there any difference? Is it okay for Christians to read Tolkien’s work?” SG. in Charlottesville, Va.

My Answer: I have maintained for many years that one’s foundation in life is important. The basics of a person’s beliefs and core faith are essential to understanding everything else about that person. Everything is derived from the perspective a person views life with. Call it worldview, or paradigm, or cosmic perspective, or whatever you wish—but the fact is that no one can escape their basic understanding of the life and reality. How you act, how you think, what you do in life, is all a result, directly or indirectly, of the foundational beliefs you have about God, morals, life and reality.

Is Jesus the ONLY WAY?

Just recently one of our ministry partners at Advancing Native Missions, a brother from East Africa, visited the seminary of a major Evangelical denomination.  He spoke to a group of graduate students in a class on missiology.  You would think that such a group of missiological students would be pretty well grounded in a biblical worldview, especially when it comes to evangelism, missions and a Christian understanding of salvation.  You would think…
